summer recap in photos

Camp Cornerstone (our church's version of VBS) was so much fun! Our format at Cornerstone is three nights (Wed-Fri) and then a family serve day in the community on Saturday morning. This year's theme was Adventures on Promise Island. It's a lot of work but it's very rewarding and a ton of fun!

I haven't done a good job documenting things on my blog this summer. I am going to be doing several "summer recaps" in the next week or so. It's been a very busy and fun summer for us.

choosing fabric might end up being the death of me!

I'm bummed that I don't have more of an update for the whole bedroom remodel. The bed and headboard have been made. The paint color for the wall has been picked out. I think I've almost decided on curtain fabric. The main thing that is slowing everything down is the fabric for the headboard. I really want it to be the focal point of the room so the fabric has to be perfect. I am such a detail person...it's insane. At times it is an awesome thing because I am able to really visualize the things I want and how I want them to be done. The flip side of this is it's very hard to ever be completely satisfied with my finished products because inevitably something goes off course from my extremely detailed plan. I'm forcing myself to pick out headboard fabric this weekend. I will hopefully have some fun pictures to post next week.

We are heading home this weekend to celebrate my Papa's 90th birthday. It has been so nice not working on weekends anymore. It's been a great summer for us. I've loved being able to see my family more.

That's it for today...Happy Thursday!

wedges

I've wanted these Steve Madden wedges for months but didn't want to pay $95-100 for them. I almost screamed out loud when I saw them at TJ Maxx....and they were my size! I paid 65% less than the retail price too! I've had them for a couple of weeks and just wore them for the first time on Sunday. They are SO comfortable. These wedges are definitely my favorite purchase for summer 2012!

early morning crying & Whitney Houston

I do not know what is wrong with me today! It's the first morning I've been up before 7 am in a long time. I should be embarrassed but I'm not. It's one of the many changes in my life. I've gone from not sleeping ever to sleeping... a LOT! Thank you Jesus! I'm sure B feels differently about this new change in my life. Anyway, this has been a very peculiar morning. I'm not a crier. I'm sure I would have a ton less emotional issues if I would just let myself cry about things. Well, this morning the floodgates have opened. In two hours I've cried about kids in Africa, a dear friend that is sick, a very bad dream I had last night that involved B dying and a bunch of snakes, Whitney Houston, being overwhelmed with all I have to do in the next 48 hours and the fact that we don't get to see our sweet SJP on her first birthday..tomorrow! Trust me I understand how crazy I sound right now.

Today is one of those days where if I'm not productive every hour for the next 8-10 hours I'm going to be completely behind the entire weekend. I am beyond thankful that the orders for Things From a Cloud keep coming in! I have five orders shipping out this weekend. If you haven't checked out our etsy store or liked our facebook page I would love for you to do so! We are about to put all of our in stock inventory on sale. It's time to start working on projects and items for the holidays.

Just have to say....cannot believe that tomorrow will be a year since our SJP was born. I better stop typing now or I'll start crying again!

Happy Friday blog friends!

life on a budget

B and I watch a ton of HGTV & shows on the DIY network. Over the weekend we watch a bedroom remodel show. I have a small master suite compared to most people I know. (Long story short...it was either make a smaller kitchen/living room or a smaller bedroom. I spend way more time in the kitchen and living room so the choice was easy.) The bedroom getting remodeled was even smaller than ours. Would you like to know how much they spent?? Drum roll please........$22,500! I was in shock. Maybe it's because I'm married to the most frugal person I have ever known but there is no way I could ever spend $22,500 on decorating a bedroom.
Just so you know - my bedroom remodel budget is a LOT less than $22,500. I will be including prices of everything I buy and material cost for the entire room once the project is complete. You will be amazed at my mad bargain & discount shopping skills. It doesn't hurt that I am married to someone who can build anything!

wall color decision...check!

It only took four different samples to pick out the wall color for our bedroom. We are going with a warm toned gray...Travertine.(It's the bottom color on the left.)

a closer view...

Every time I take pictures of paint samples and ask my family and friends for their opinion, I always pick the opposite of what they choose. I decided to leave it up to B and me this time. Surprisingly, we agreed on a color! This is probably a first for us in 10 years. Hopefully, I will be able to make the extremely detailed vision that I have in my head a reality!
Happy Monday!

a "grown up" bedroom

I've been wanting to remodel and decorate our master suite for such a long time but I haven't had the time until now. Our bedroom has always been a random assortment of things with no design or theme. I always joke and say we still have a college kid looking room. It won't be this way for long! I'm finally going to have a "grown up" bedroom!

Today was DAY 1 of the Cloud Bedroom/Bath overhaul!

- Bryant built a new bed frame and the frame for the headboard I'm going to upholster
- We have a color scheme...charcoal, light gray, white, turquoise & aqua accents
- Our bedding will be solid white
- I'm on the hunt for fun fabrics for my accent pillows, upholstered bench seats and curtains

It really is crazy how excited I get over stuff like this. I love it. Here are a few "pins" that I'm using as inspiration.

Summer

Hi Blog Friends,

I have appreciated your support, comments, prayers & encouragement over the past almost four years  that I've had this blog. I'm asking that you send prayers up for a person who has made a hugely profound impact in my life. Summer is in the middle of a fight with cancer. I hate cancer. It's horrible. It's getting hard to even find anyone who hasn't been affected by it or has a close friend or family member dealing with it. Summer and her family lived down the street from us for a couple of years. She was the first photographer to take our family photos in Auburn. Her precious son Jaylen was in my two year old preschool class a few years ago. Summer was one of the few people that saw me in my hospital room the day we lost & delivered Nate. I don't talk about the details of that day very often but Summer's visit was probably the most memorable for me. The hospital door opened and I saw my friend Jill and right behind her was Summer. I looked beyond a hot mess. Literally, my face was so swollen and broken out from crying that most people looked shocked upon entering the room. Summer literally ran to my bedside. She hugged me and said out loud with as much certainty as the fact that there is a sun in the sky, "You will have more children!". She then repeated it again. Summer knows the pain of losing a baby and the shock and grief of delivering a stillborn. She had delivered a baby girl stillborn a few years earlier. She was such a huge encouragement to me through that first weeks and months after losing Nate. Her words and visit that day will stay with me forever.
It has been amazing to see how the community and the church have rallied around this family. Please help me pray for Summer's healing and that she will have the strength and peace to get through this journey. Summer has a Caring Bridge site that she updates regularly. SJP in Alabama!
